NUS Commencement 2003...

Phew! Finally it's over! I wasn't really keen on attending this commencement initially 'cos I thot it will just be a long and boring ceremony, but ma and pa had insisted that I attend it for memory's sake. Well, I'm really glad that I attended it eventually because it was really fun! It oso helped that the whole ceremony was only a short 45 min! No boring speeches and slow queue up the stage to get the scroll! Woo hoo!

But the highlight of the day has to be all the photo takings I had. Truth to be told, I never like being photographed. But on this special day, I felt the need to take photos with almost everyone I know... haha! Dunno why oso... mabbie all these photo-taking made me feel like a celebrity of sort... with frens and family members clamouring to take photos with you! hee!

My ceremony was in the morning, so I had photos taken with my parents and brother then. Ma and pa looked really happy... wah, make me proud myself oso... ho!

As crazy as it sounds, I went back to my company to take photos with my colleagues in the early afternoon. Had photos taken with almost everyone and I was especially happy that I managed to had a department photo taken. My boss even remarked:"My eldest son is leaving for U.S. and my daughter has just graduated." Well, that remark got everyone in giggles but at the same time I sensed that my boss is sad to see my Chinese supervisor leaving. But it was really fun (or embarassing) to walk around the company in the convo suit asking peeps to take pics with us... Ah! Shameless!!

Then in the late afternoon, I went back to UCC again to have photos taken with Fang and Ah Le. Thanks to Fang, I had a photo taken with the Science Dean (together with Wendy oso)... was kinda starstruck by dat... ahahaa! Ah Le oso presented us with the bears he bought for us fr Thailand... Thanks Ah Le! Fang oso tried to gather all the Chem grad for a major photo taking... I must say she's real good at this and her boombastic voice is especially useful in situations like this (no offence, Fang! haha!). I was kinda touched (although my jaws were numbed) when all the chem grads, well almost, gathered to have the photo taken. Made me want to scream out loud, "I'm proud to be a Chem grad!" haha!

As cliche as it sounds, I would like to firstly thank my parents for bringing me up and supporting me throughout the years. And not forgetting my siblings for keeping me sane with their silly antics and for tolerating my bad temper. Thirdly, to Fang and Ah Le. Life in NUS would certainly be very boring and mundane without you guys. Lastly, thanks to all that I've failed to mentioned here... Thank you! * Bows* *Applause!!*

All the best...

Meant to write this on Wed nite, but was busy preparing for the commmencement on the next day... But anyway, my heartfelt wishes to my colleague, Zhou Yan, on her impending studies in U.S. It's been a great time working with you and I will definitely miss all the good times we spent in the office gossiping and chit-chatting. Thanks for the pencil holder and the free biscuits that you gave me... hee!! Once again, all the best to you!!

I'm losing touch...

Yep! It's Monday and no wonder I'm feeling really whiny today. I'm losing touch of my drawing talents!! Help moi!

I used to be really confident of my artistic talents, especially when it comes to drawing and designing stuff, but I've find myself gradually losing it. Yesterday, Fang asked me to design a poster for the FOA ribbon basket. And horrors of horrors, I had absolute ZERO inspiration and I'm ashamed to say that the one and only design I came out with is a pure disaster; yet I e-mailed it to Fang. Gomen, Fang!

In recent years, some frens have approached me to help them with designing stuffs but I would be very hesitant or find lame excuses to reject them. It's not dat I'm being unhelpful; it's just dat I dun want to disappoint them and myself with the lousy end products... *sigh!*

Took MC again... *sigh!*

I took a MC today again... a half day MC to be exact... was having very bad stomach cramps. But the most irritating thing is dat I have a lot of things to finish up and pai seh to say, my supervisor have to finish them for me. Sometimes, I really wonder whether I'm more of a burden or help to him... this totally sucks man! X-( *sigh!*

And it seems that I've been taking frequent MCs, I hope the HR dun doubt the integrity of my MCs... *prays hard*

Dragon boating...
Went dragon boating with Fang n Dun Dun on Sat... Thot it was just for leisure but it turned out dat the team was recruiting new members... so we ended up joining the team practice. Gasp!

Wat can I say? Dragon boating IS very difficult to master; it really requires good technique and of course, some amount of strength and stamina. Last but not least, being a team sport, it requires the whole team to synchronize their paddling strokes.

I haven't exercise so vigorously since my JC days, so naturally I was VERY lethargic after the whole activity. I felt like I've lost my arms after the whole thing... They are still aching as I type this entry. This activity has really made me realise that I should start exercising more regularly than ... I used to have very good confidence with my stamina, but now, even climbing the overhead bridge is making me breathless. And the most shocking truth is that my most recent 2.4km timing is, get this, a lousy n disappointing 15 min! Must exercise more!!! Argh!!!

Lastly, dun think I would be joining the dragonboat team since it really requires a lot of commitment and time... think I would rather just sit n watch the dragonboat (races) while eating my ba-chang(rice dumpling)...

Errr...

Was casually chatting with my supervisor about when to take leave for holidays when he suddenly ask me bout my opinions about SDU(?!)... well, here's how the conversation went (not the exact words but something like dat lar):

Me: M; Supervisor:S

S: Hey, you should start taking leave otherwise it will be forfeited.
M: yah, I will... thinking of going for a holiday.
S: So who will you go with?
M: Should be with my sis lor, I went to HK with her oso.
S: Hmm... you should expand your social circle. A lot of my peers, the girls lar (that's the 29-yrs-old peeps), want to get married now, but very hard to find mate alreadi. All so busy with their work and their social circle becomes smaller as time pass by. You should go out and meet more friends... wat's your opinion of SDU?
M(!!!): err...
S: Hey, dun think people who sigh up for SDU are all unwanted! In fact, a lot of them are quite eligible, quite a number of my frens found good partners thru SDU.
M: Haha! Goh Chok Tong would be so proud of you... promoting marriage to the singles...
S: oh! yah hor... haha!

Well, that my supervisor for ya, the happily-married-with-2-kids-fellow. Well, to be frank, I am envious of him... he has a happy family and a stable income, all before the age of 35. Me? Well, my biological clock is certainly ticking faster as time passes by and of cos, I hope my prince charming would come soon (yah lar, yah lar, me very desperate liao, any takers?). I'm not getting any younger and my social circle is pathetically small. SDU sounds like a good idea, somemore I'm going to get a FREE membership. So anyone wants to join SDU with me huh?

Why I suddenly have lotsa things to do at work...

My Chinese supervisor is leaving for US to join his wife... hence, I've to take over most of his work until the company finds another person to join our team. The problem is that our team has only 3 people (including me). Now that he is leaving, there will be only two people left and the projects have been coming in like endless streams of water all of the sudden. So I was expected to learn all the skills and information from this supervisor within 1 month (now onli left with less than 3 weeks!)... thus, I'm feeling extremely stressed now, but then again, I'm glad to be more involved in the projects more than before which allows me to learn a lot more things. But I'm still very apprehensive if I could do as well as him... after all, he contributed a lot to our team...

But still, I want to wish him all the best in US... I will miss his deadpan sense of humor and all the patience he showed me while guiding me...

A groggy Tuesday...

Didn't go to work cos I'm having fever, runny nose and a real sore throat, so I took Uncle Phua's advice of "if you are sick, dun go to work", lest "the whole company kena quarantine AH!"

Was sick since yesterday morning but I continued working because there are so many things to complete... couldn't register wat my supervisors were telling me the whole of yesterday also. Quite bad lar...I should have gone home instead of "cheng qiang-ing"... and now I'm feeling even more sick... *sigh!* *~whine!!!!~*

Was watching the repeat telecast of Star Search 2003...

Frankly speaking, I not really interested in watching the contestants strutting their stuff (got meh? haha!), but I was extremely curious about the spoofs of some artistes by the TCS 8 actors, especially having read the Star Search coverage in 8 Days.

I must say the show is very DISAPPOINTING right from the start... can really blame the contestants oso... the person(s) who chereographed the stoopig dance segment should be shot! Ok ok, the contestants were not even dancing! Half of the cohort were literally just hanging around. They were put on wires and made to fly around (looks painful sia!)... looks to me that these setups were leftovers from the President Star Charity show... hahaha!

Anyway, back to the spoofs which were for the segment to test the hosting skills of the contestants... I must say Jeff Wang did a mean job of impersonating Jay Chou and Vanness Wu... laughed my head off... very farnie!! Zhou Chongqing was also very good as Zai Zai(Vic Zhou) n Jolin Tsai. Nothing impressive bout the contestants though... still dunno why M6 won the prize for the best host, his performace at this segment was as bad as the others, but then again, mabbie the judges had to pick the best among the worst... haha!

Watching this show is realli a pain in the a**... so naturally I switched the TV off after 1.5hr later...

But kudos to the contestants for their courage in participating in this lousy competition and good luck to all of u! I mean it seriously, just look at Hu(Who?) Shi Bin... Take my word, getting no. 1 may not always guarantee you stardom... Peace out!

cellar /'se-l&r/ n underground room for storing coal, wine, etc; (person's) store of wine.

Finally got my own blog set up... ~Yeah!~

Was inspired by my friends (yah lar yah lar... who else but Ah Fang n Ah Le lor) who had their blogs up recently, but I don't know if mine would be as good as theirs as I find myself losing grasp of my 'powder-ful' English. I can't really explain myself or converse in English as well as before and I don't know the reason why... I hope it's not because I've been watching too much Japanese animes... hee! But then again, hopefully I can improve my written and spoken(???!!!) English by channelling my thoughts on this blog.

But why named my blog "The Whine Cellar", you may ask. Well, it's because I AM very whiny (jus ask my sis n friends) and hence, whine instead of wine (pun intended). Well this blog would a place for me to store my collecion of whines (and hope dat I dun go whining to my sis and friends again!) and hence "The Wine Cellar"!

I try to update my collection of whines as frequently as possible, so stay tune!
